Sweet! I see you are also changing the cam. Which cam are you installing for your new combination? Are you doing any head mods while it is off? What else are you doing? Is that your transmission and t-case there on the floor or is it a spare or broken one? lol
Looking forward to seeing more pics of your buildup! Good luck with your project! |

the heads off the truck is at lazarsmith its a broken tranny mine will be coming out on the 11th for mikes gorilla 56 upgrade. I am going with mike IR intake and the heads been coated as well as valves and springs. to tell the truth I am not sure what all has been done to the head will get a updated list soon. The cam is going to be something custom built just for this truck in a superstock setup. Its going to be really hard (if we can) resist upgrading the short block while its dang near loose.

I havent' driven mine in at least that long. It's been sitting in the driveway with a busted DPF harness waiting for me to put it back to stock and take it to the dealer for warranty work

If I had the budget for racing I would install some coated industrial 6.7 pistons as they run a slightly different piston bowl. The industrial pistons have a smoother bowl with slightly less compression as they were designed to run with out an EGR system. Lower compression is a plus when you are building a lot more boost than a stock engine. Combine some of the latest high temp coatings for the dome and also coat the skirts with either graphite or teflon and you will have a killer piston combination. Then hook them up to some aftermarket rods and the bottom end will take some serious torque without failing.
I will be looking forward to reading more about your buildup. Good luck with your truck! |

If we tear down the short block iwe will pull the pistons for a coating of some sort. Lazarsmith is really the one doing the build but its so awesome to be able to learn from a guy like Mike

Y'all should've seen the look on Lucus' truck the other day when I popped the hood - when he & Jim dropped the truck off at the shop he just thought we were gonna do a grid heater delete...
![]() Since this build has already escaped into into the wild, I might as well edit for clarity & accuracy: 1. That's almost 5 figures worth of DTT tranny with less than a couple dozen hits at the track waiting to go under our '98 twin turbo V10 Ram project. 2. The new cam is a prototype I designed after a lot of time & money on a SuperFlow bench with 3 different heads - unfortunately, there's nothing in the aftermarket that's ideal for this beastie. 3. We have to get crazy with the short block - just wouldn't be right to mod the rotating assembly for other Super Stock customers and not do the same for Lucus as well... anyone who knows Comp Eliminator understands the depths of our insanity. ![]() 4. The head is max-effort (not another one like it on the planet); next step up is our billet aluminum head, which due to the build schedule's relatively short time frame will probably have to ride in the bed instead of underhood... at least it can keep our vendor table from blowing away in FL. 5. No reason to decompress with an S300 66mm spec turbo rule... besides, we don't care about boost - I like to drill a little deeper than that. Whoever has the most molecules wins!

. I had no clue what the tranny was theres to many toys I got destracted by. Sorry for any in accuracys I may have accidently put into this thread. Mike is man behind the truck I am just the trucks driver. its going to be a interesting build I believe. I hope I can hang around in Mikes shop a little in the next few weeks and give him a hand with what needs to be done (I feel guilty not being able to for the last few weeks).
